Wednesday tips: Dave Nevison's Nottingham selections and more

Roy Bowring’s sprinter is not the most consistent, but still managed to win three races last season, and might have enough going for him if he is in the mood here. 

He raced from the front for all of those victories, and may have found a race where he will get an uncontested lead here, with several slow starters in opposition. 

The seven-year-old has run in a couple of well-contested events at Doncaster so far this season, and ran well on the first occasion. The Bowring yard have had a winner plus a few run well since then, so hopefully this could be the race Toptime comes good in now he is just 2lb above his last winning mark.

Won off a rating of 82 when he was with David O’Meara, and he hit form on his third start last year having joined John Wainwright when finishing third off a rating of 77. 

He didn’t manage to win last season but ran several good races off marks in the mid 70’s before his form tailed off late in the season. 

The selection has improved from his first run this season and now that he has been dropped to a mark of 65, he looks poised to go well again. 

Things haven’t gone perfectly in two runs for Jez Bomb since he scored at Thirsk in April. He has found himself having to get through the field to make progress, but has hit traffic on both occasions, notably so last time out.

However, he has a pretty good strike-rate plus has run well at Ripon on both his visits here, and with this race set to be run at a strong pace, hopefully the gaps will appear in time for him. 

Oisin Orr takes over the steering on Wednesday, which should certainly be no detriment as he won on Jez Bomb at Redcar last summer.
