Tuesday tips: Dave Nevison's best bets

This is the second time I have gone with Tristan Davison’s sprinter this season. He lost then and has disappointed on his latest run, but people continue to back this horse and he has gone off at shortish prices in his races suggesting there is a strong view he is still capable of showing good form.

Our Absent Friends hit form in September last season after a long sequence of defeats. He won twice in this month last year and that first success came off a mark of 72 and he subsequently won off higher.

He is down to a mark of 65 this afternoon and his yard is going well, so if the seven-year-old is in the mood for racing, his chances are clear. 

Law Degree is top weight here in the lowest grade handicap he has ever contested. He came back to form last time out at Musselburgh and must be strongly fancied to go very close in this modest affair.

It seems highly likely the pace will be strong here, which will suit the Tim Easterby gelding who runs his best races when he is able to drop in off a good pace. The trip is ideal and this weak event looks a good opportunity to score.

David O’Meara’s filly takes a massive drop in grade here form a very hot 0-105 handicap at York, where she performed well, to this much less competitive 0-80 grade fillies only handicap.

I have noted many times that the trainer is a regular exploiter of a class angle running horses rated a couple of pounds higher than the race ceiling. Brielle is the latest example and she may well be suited by the stiffer track at Leicester than York’s flat fast track.

Her maiden win came at Hamilton so she clearly handles an uphill finish. Rossa Ryan riding is obviously a plus.
