Our betting expert likes a pair who will be making their chasing debuts plus another who did not get a chance to show what he could do on his fencing bow.
1.25 Kelso: I Wish You
I Wish You has always looked like a 3m chaser in the making and could well turn out to be the best of the Russell/Scudamore pair in this contest.
He won a modest novices’ hurdle at Carlisle last season under Patrick Wadge and was consistent in handicaps afterwards, although lacked the pace to win competitive races over 2m.
He improved from just a fair reappearance run when stepped up to this trip for the first time at Perth last time out. If he takes to chasing as expected he should go very close in this modest event.
2.45 Lingfield: Followkato
Ben Pauling’s horses have been in tremendous form this autumn largely down to a very impressive team of novice chasers, so it was disappointing that Followkato didn’t get a chance to show what he could do on his return.
He got rid of Ben Jones after stumbling at the second fence, but he obviously didn’t harm himself as he is back out again less than a week later.
He is upped a couple of furlongs but has already finished runner-up in an Irish point to point and his dam, by Black Sam Bellamy, is closely related to several stayers.
This trip is likely to suit and Followkato and he can make amends
3.50 Lingfield: Jorebel
Chris Gordon got Jorebel well-handicapped, and he quickly rattled up a hat-trick of wins after returning in mid-September. He didn’t complete the four-timer last time out but still ran well.
His connections are now switching him to fences and I strongly believe Jorebel is better than a 0-105 grade horse. He is starting off from a favourable mark over the larger obstacles
His front-running style is perfect for the Lingfield chase track and, if taking to fences, he can resume winning ways.
