High Degree has been a beaten favourite on each of his latest four starts which could be a little concerning but - perhaps because I have not yet got involved with him - I am well prepared to row in with him here.
His two starts this season came in very strong races and defeat, while disappointing, can easily be forgiven as he came up against either very well handicapped or very promising types... probably both.
This nine-furlong trip is ideal and I am hoping the Haggas four-year-old doesn’t get into too much of a battle for the lead and conserves enough energy to repel the finishers.
There are a few in this field who have got the winning habit but looking through Native Instinct’s recent form suggests he cannot be brought out too quickly after a decent run as he regularly disappoints.
His runs when having been off the track for at least a month would make him look very well-handicapped in this company and I am very hopeful a 43-day absence will see him return to his best. He has run well off a much higher mark not too long ago and with the stable going well currently Native Instinct can go close.
This is moderate stuff but top-weight Bohemian Breeze might well be able to give the weight away and follow up his recent course and distance victory.
The Gary Moore-trained gelding has won twice over this course and distance and scored off this mark at the beginning of last July having won off much higher not that long ago. Tom Queally knows him well and cajoled him into winning cosily last time - I don't think a 5lb higher mark will stop him here.
