2.15 Beverley: A War Eagle
Ed Bethell’s horses all ran well at Ascot and he had a good winner at Redcar on Saturday.
He can strike here with A War Eagle, who has been brought along in typical style by the trainer and has improved with each run - most recently with a good effort on handicap debut when beaten a neck at Hamilton.
The winner of that race, Impartiality has already scored again so the form looks strong.
is 2lb higher but dropping back in trip by nearly a furlong may well suit him and, while still a maiden, he looks way more progressive than most of his rivals.
3.15 Beverley: Dr Rio
It is only six runs ago that Dr Rio scored off a 1lb higher mark than he is on here. He has gradually been running himself back into form while dropping down in the weights, including at this track.
The veteran handicapper is campaigned pretty much exclusively at this track on turf and handles any trip from a mile to Tuesday’s 1½ miles equally well.
He won over this distance last July and, given how well he was staying on despite being short of room over a mile last time, he looks ready to be stepped back up. He is always ridden by Zak Wheatley.
3.45 Beverley: Gincident
Gincident is another that has thrived since joining the James Owen yard this season and can land his third victory for the yard here.
He ran his best race in defeat last time at York in a much more competitive handicap than this one.
He has been raised 3lb for that effort, which reflects the strength of the form. This race is likely to be run at a pace to suit him and he can defy the handicapper’s attention.
