Our website tipster Dave Nevison takes aim at the action live on Racing TV on Tuesday and makes a case for three contenders.
1.35 Epsom: Fidelius
Night On Earth won this race at 8-1 last year and became was the longest-priced winner of this handicap for ten years, so it is usually best to look at the front of the market for this 5f contest.
As may be expected, Ralph Beckett runs three here, but I have no doubt that Fidelius is capable of performing best of the trio.
Tom Marquand rode the selection to victory when on board for the first time at Chelmsford last time out, and certainly seemed to get on well enough with him.
That was Fidelius’ third win at the all-weather track, but he acts equally as well on turf and ran his best race last season at York on his final outing of 2024.
He is certainly quick enough for this track and looks the progressive sprinter in this field.
3.20 Epsom: Carnival Day
Several contenders here are making their seasonal reappearances, and could well need the outing, so the angle into the race might well be Carnival Day who finished a good third on his reappearance this month, and was improving at the end of last season.
He is locally trained by Jim Boyle, which might suggest this race has been the early season aim, and he can hopefully put his fitness to good use.
5.00 Epsom: Port Road
Port Road also represents Epsom and has run really well to finish runner-up on his past two outings.
He has finished second three times in his short career on the all-weather, but I don't think you can question his attitude, and I am pretty sure he will be breaking his maiden soon enough.
Handicaps are probably the way to go at this stage of the season, with maiden events being strong, and he is up against a field of veterans who are likely on the downgrade, and vulnerable against his potential for improvement.
If Port Road acts as well on turf, he will go very close in this competitive closer.
