Top tips for Wednesday: Angus McNae has four fancies

I have come up with four selections spread across three tracks today. The first two selections are at Catterick, which you can see live on Racing UK.
This Swiss Spirit two-year-old put up a good performance on his debut at Beverley despite showing signs of inexperience. He finished third to the useful Cardsharp and in the process posted a decent Timeform speed figure.
After a nine week lay-off he then ran slightly below expectations in finishing third at Haydock. He might have done too much too soon in that race and I am prepared to forgive him that effort and am looking for him to repeat his debut effort. If he does he should easily beat an unremarkable field.
This three-year-old filly, trained by Ruth Carr, seems to be thriving and there could be a lot more improvement to come from her.
Melaniemillie was a narrow winner here at Catterick last time, but she travelled very strongly through that race shaping as if she is going to be better than a handicapper rated 54.
She also seemed to be helped by dropping to six furlongs as her main assets seems to be her speed and ability to travel well. She has only been with Ruth Carr since June and in typical fashion this shrewd trainer has found the key to Melaniemillie, who looks ready to exploit a good mark now that she is able to use her speed in the sprinting sphere.
Ban Shoof was an impressive winner last time up and can follow up here.
His win came at Brighton, where, having been held up, he travelled strongly and won going away. He has to race off a 3lb higher mark which should not be a bar to further success. He is dropping back from 11 furlongs to 10, but given his strong travelling nature that should not be a problem.
It should be noted that Gary Moore, his trainer, has not had this horse very long and the fitting of blinkers for his past two starts have definitely made a difference. He wears them again on Wednesday and looks set to go well.
If you get a chance then you must watch this horse’s taking win here at Kempton last time up. He travelled well and forged clear late on to win with considerable authority in a decent time.
The step back up to a mile on that occasion seemed to really suit him as did the all-weather surface on which he was racing for just the second time.
James Doyle is reunited with this three-year-old gelding and there is every chance that he will be back in the winner’s enclosure again and in the process show himself to be well ahead of the handicapper despite an 8lb rise in the weights.
Angus’ tips for Wednesday:
3.50 Catterick: Melaniemillie
4.40 Lingfield: Ban Shoof
