12.42 Newbury: Dakota Star
Dakota Star comfortably beat an odds-on shot who won next time out when we last saw him back in March. The four-year-old looks a decent handicap prospect this season and a mark of 115 sees him start his handicap career off a reasonable mark.
Philip Hobbs and Johnson White have started the main part of the jumps season pretty well and this looks a good bit of placing with their useful Conditional Jack Stenhouse able to claim 8lb under the terms of this race.
In a big field with plenty of promising types in opposition, Dakota Star might be worth a look each-way.

Hitched has demonstrated many times that on his day he can win all-weather handicaps off marks much higher than this and, after not winning a race since January, could be ready to score again.
David Simcock’s six-year-old gelding missed the summer, but didn’t do too badly on his return from that break last time out.
Hitched does need to progress from that comeback run, but the forecast strong pace will suit this hold-up performer and, if he is fit enough, he can go close.

6.15 Chelmsford: Pull The Rug
There are some in-form sprinters in this modest handicap, but Pull The Rug has been in better form than recent form figures suggest.
The drop down to five furlongs proved too sharp for him last time out and his previous runs over six furlongs saw him meet trouble in running to varying degrees.
He probably should have won on just his second start for Grace Harris back in the summer and is 7lb lower today, and running in a much lower grade handicap. He could be value against much more obvious candidates.
The Harris team have sent out a couple of winners in the last week or so and are clearly in top form.
Fancy dinner with Dave?
If anybody fancies a Xmas lunch with a racing theme, please get in touch.
I have been a frustrated MasterChef contestant for years and started doing these Racing Lunches after my legs packed in and I can’t really go racing too often. They have gone down very well so far so this year so I have decided to host “A Bloody Good (Xmas) Dinners.”
I have been around long enough to have quite a few stories to tell and would to host a few of you for festive drinks, great food and enjoyable chat for a few afternoon’s in December. If you, your syndicate or owners group are interested in a slightly different Xmas celebration in central London please email me at
