5.15 Chelmsford: Crafter
Mark Loughnane’s seven-year-old handicapper has run well all season and looks as though his turn is near judged by a good effort last time out.
Crafter was second on the all-weather at Lingfield and, although he was beaten four lengths, the winner is an improved performer who has scored again since, as has one who was well behind, so I feel the form is strong for this grade.
Rider Miss Tilly Evans got on well with Crafter last time and looks an asset with her 5lb claim here (2 wins from 25 largely big priced mounts so far). He has been dropped a pound in the handicap which looks a little generous given the strong form of the last run.
5.22 Haydock: Organ
This is quite an interesting three-year-old only handicap with more than one likely improver involved, but a couple of the more fancied runners are drawn very wide so I am happy to side with Martin Meade’s promising runner.
Organ got a mark from three solid, if not spectacular, runs as a two-year-old and put up a really good reappearance effort in a handicap on the Rowley Mile which has already produced a next time out winner.
He was staying on very well last time and will be well suited by the forecast strong pace here, and given the good form of the Meade stable, I will be surprised if Organ doesn’t progress.
8.20 Chelmsford: Safari Dream
Safari Dream is an obvious choice to follow up last week’s Salisbury success in an Apprentice handicap which means he escapes a penalty for that win.
The Millman runner was gambled into favouritism for that race despite going there on the back of a modest previous run and won nicely. He had previously been running consistently on the all-weather earlier in the year and won’t have any issue returning to Chelmsford.
Oisin Murphy takes over in the saddle which completes the set of positive factors and will ensure he goes off favourite for this modest handicap.
