Betting expert Dave Nevison has three best bets at Newbury this Thursday and reckons one should be well-suited to a step up in trip. 6.25 Newbury: War Howl
I have been with War Howl in this column for his last two wins and, off just a 3lb higher mark, I think he has very good prospects of completing the hat-trick here.
He only won by a neck last time, but it was a smooth success and it looked to be far more superior than the narrow margin suggests.
War Howl is up to a mile here, but the way he relaxes in his race suggests the extra furlong will be no hindrance; his dam won over the trip and is a daughter of Camelot, so going further will likely be a plus.
7.00 Newbury: Mythical Composer
This field contains several pacesetters and will very likely be strongly run which could be a key factor for Mythical Composer, who has not always settled as well as he needs to.
Rossa Ryan should be able to track the leaders here and hopefully deliver Clive Cox’s useful colt at the right time.
He is 6lb lower than at the start of the season and his run last time suggests he is ready to land his first victory of this season for his in-form yard.
7.30 Newbury: King Al
King Al won a modest Haydock maiden on his only start as a two-year-old and has had a gentle introduction to handicapping at three.
He improved from his reappearance last time out at Doncaster, finishing fifth in a competitive handicap.
He has been dropped down a couple of pounds for that run and, with Alan King’s horses going very well at the moment but in need of a change of luck (four seconds from last ten runners), King Al looks to be in with a chance.
