Our betting expert is sweet on a trio at the West Country venue on a day when the Racing TV cameras will also capture the action at Thurles.
Coming your way next week . . . our Cheltenham build-up will begin from 10am every day!
2.20 Wincanton: Lightonthewing
Lightonthewing was light on his feet when he won this corresponding race last season, making most of the running to score comfortably.
Perhaps, significantly, he backed up that win with another success 12 days later, when winning by 17 lengths.
He came back to form with a win over hurdles last time, when he again made all. I am hoping that a win over the smaller obstacles has rekindled his enthusiasm for steeplechasing and that he can follow up once again.
A look through his form shows that he doesn’t get beat too often when racing off a mark below 90 and he has a decent 7lb claimer on board.
4.50 Wincanton: Drash On Ruby
Drash On Ruby has the best form in this low-grade handicap and a glance at his form figures shows that he is the most consistent in this modest field.
He ran the improving Badbury Rings to half a length over 3m at Taunton last time and might well have been closer but for a mistake in the straight.
Cheekpieces have been added to the usual tongue strap, which looks a positive, but off the same mark I feel only a poor round of jumping will stop him here.
5.20 Wincanton: Feet On The Ground
This late developing mare has clearly been ridden with an eye to the future on her three starts over hurdles and has shown enough to suggest that an opening mark of 99 gives her a decent chance of getting off the mark.
She has come from off the pace to run on eye-catchingly into third place on her past two starts and it will be interesting to see if she is ridden more positively this time.
I am pretty sure she will go off at the shortest price she has in her career so far.
