The Paul Mulrennan column: I'm hoping Queen can rule at Beverley

Racing TV ambassador Paul Mulrennan gives us the inside track on his four rides at Beverley on Saturday plus sings the praises of Battaash.
I head to Beverley on Saturday where the William Hill Beverley Bullet Sprint Stakes takes centre stage and my best chance of the day looks to be the hat-trick seeking Queens Gift in that Listed contest.
She wore cheekpieces for the first time last time out which is not because she is ungenuine but, when she hits the front, she thinks she has done enough, so they help her.
She will need a career best but is progressive and it would be great to get her some black type plus ride another winner for Geoff & Sandra Turnbull who have been great supporters of mine over the years.
My first ride of the day is My Dandy Doc in the Irish EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

She ran a nice race last time out when she finished fourth at Redcar and a step up in trip should suit. Hopefully she can step forward again and be in the mix.
I have won on Desert Ace - who runs in the Constant Security Handicap – before and he is a grand old horse who loves Beverley.
Paul Midgley’s horses are in good form and I would be expecting a big run from this eight-year-old who I think is well handicapped.
Philip Makin has been doing well since he joined the training ranks and I ride Armed for him in the Educare Of Beverley Handicap.
We are still learning about this horse as he has not got many miles on the clock and we are trying to find out what his best trip is.
He showed plenty of promise during his early career so hopefully there is more to come from him.
Battaash all class in the Nunthrope:
Battaash silenced a lot of doubters in the Coolmore Nunthrope Stakes at York last week and to break Dayjur’s long-standing track record was unbelievable.
He is set to head straight for the Prix De L’Abbaye which I think is a good move as he will be a fresh horse and we know what kind of performance he is capable of in that contest having bolted up in it in 2017.
Maya a filly on the up:
Gale Force Maya produced a nice performance to complete a hat-trick at Carlisle on Thursday and she is a filly on the up.
Hopefully there is more to come from her as she is only a three-year-old and Michael Dods is eyeing a Fillies’ only race at Newmarket for her next.
It was also great to get Mutamaded back in the winners’ enclosure at Musselburgh on Tuesday for Ruth Carr.
He was the best horse in the race carrying top weight and duly obliged. Hopefully he can follow up that victory next time out.
Great to see Adele back in the saddle:
My wife Adele was back in the saddle this week when she took part in the John Nixon Flying Fillies’ Charity Race at Catterick on Wednesday.
She put plenty of hard work in ahead of the race and finished second to Dawn Henry aboard Sigurd.
All the riders did incredibly well and raised lots of money for fantastic causes. Adele has been raising money for the Injured Jockeys Fund who have helped me enormously through my career.

I also think the Creditas Financial Stable Staff Stakes race at Thirsk is a great idea and for jockeys to lead up the horses in that race which is all in aid of Racing Welfare.
My wife has been working hard behind the scenes with the event and I must give a mention to Andy Shaw, father of Harrison, who kindly sponsors the race.
Thoughts with those closest to Mikaela Claridge:
I was saddened to see the news that Mikaela Claridge passed away following a fall from her horse during track work at Cranbourne, Australia on Friday morning.
My thoughts go out to the close friends and family of the 22-year-old apprentice jockey who had recently got married.
Fingers crossed Silvestre is back soon:
It was horrible to see Silvestre de Sousa take a nasty fall at Chelmsford last week which left him with a broken collarhone among other injuries and I wish him a speedy recovery.
He is a tough man and hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.
