The Lost Sock finishes a close third at Wolverhampton

Last Updated: Tue 31 Mar 2026

The Lost Sock ran an excellent race to finish a close third in the Daily Profits Boosts At betmgm.co.uk Handicap at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.

Racing TV and RaceShare's syndicate horse shaped with huge promise last year, placing in all three starts and winning over five furlongs at Catterick in August.

Off since then until the beginning of March, he ran too freely on his reappearance over six furlongs, but stepped back down to the minimum trip on Tuesday, he settled much better.

Sent off the 2-1 joint-favourite, the Roger Varian-trained three-year-old was given plenty of cover in mid-division by Callum Rodriguez early on off what was a stronger pace than last time

He was travelling well with a couple of furlongs left to run and, once he was granted a clear passage in the straight, he saw his race out well to finish just a length and a half behind the Andrew Balding-trained winner Simplify.

Racing off a mark of 83 having been dropped 1lb by the handicapper since his reappearance, he shaped with enough promise to suggest he is certainly capable of winning off his current rating and may well be suited by a return to turf over the coming weeks.
