Our presenter and website tipster Johnny Ward thinks one can go well at a price in a cracking renewal of the Grade One Lawlor's Of Naas Novices' Hurdle and explains more below. Enjoy an excellent seven-race card live on Racing TV!
It's the big day of the year at Naas and it's one of my favourite places to go racing. Be it summer evenings on the Flat or a chilly day in prospect like this one, you've a smile on your face.
It's not a hugely appealing betting card all told but here are two. Be lucky.
There's no doubt that the favourite Grangeclare West looks really good, but there's an attractive each-way angle to this as Irish Point has to be a dodgy stayer on paper. After his Cork win the now-retired Davy Russell was keen to mention the horse's speed.
It's a deep race, that said, but I like Monbeg Park dropping back in trip and at quotes of 25-1. He's still for sale so a terrible run here would not be good for his value; it implies connections are happy that he will run much better than he did at Cork, when really well-backed. He doesn't look an out-and-out stayer and remains really promising, with this galloping track to suit this big horse.
I've no idea how the market is going to play out here, but clearly this horse is the most interesting one here by a country mile.
Nothing else makes much appeal for a start while, secondly, he's been wildly eye-catching in maidens - including at Naas - and now steps up in trip off a very fair mark. If he builds on his maiden form he should win - simple as that.
