2.15 Lingfield: Uppercase
This is quite a competitive affair, but the lightly-raced
Uppercase showed his best form so far when he was dropped into a handicap for the first time at Pontefract last week. He finished ahead of two last time out winners when finishing a good second to Walsingham ,who has scored again since.
He races off the same mark here, which is starting to look generous, and with an extra furlong on this easier track set to bring out more improvement, he should go well.
4.00 Musselburgh: Our Absent Friends
Trainer Tristan Davidson hit form with a vengeance last weekend and managed to get a 14-race maiden to bolt up over jumps plus also trained a flat winner at Pontefract.
Our Absent Friends has been on a long losing run since he won in September last year but, perhaps significantly, he had a wind operation in the Spring, and seems to have returned in good form.
He finished an excellent third last time out at Ayr where he was beaten just over a length, and the handicapper has dropped him 2lb since (he was due to go down following a poor first run after the op) so he is very well weighted, and has to try and take advantage.
The selection is 8lb below his last winning mark, and with Jason Hart on board, he must have a great chance.
5.00 Musselburgh: Code Purple
Code Purple is another who might be ready to score again plus might have enough in his favour to win what looks a fairly uncompetitive affair.
He ran well, as he usually does at this track, when fourth over two furlongs further last time out. He has run well over this 7f trip in the past and, given he is drawn favourably in stall one for a contender who is not averse to making the running, I fully expect him to go forward.
Ben Haslam supplied me with a 10-1 winner on Friday, and hopefully Code Purple can strike at a decent price here.
