Sun Chariot ante-post tip: "16-1 is an insult"

Despite being one of the final Group Ones of the season at Flat racing's Headquarters, the BetMGM Sun Chariot Stakes doesn't always get the attention the race deserves, with it more often than not falling on Arc weekend in early October.

The race has been won by some of the best female milers around in recent years, however, and there haven't been many as impressive as FALLEN ANGEL was last season, who galloped her rivals into submission on the Rowley Mile and beat Blue Bolt by over two lengths whilst giving the Juddmonte filly 3lb weight-for-age.

Fast forward ten months and, despite Fallen Angel doing little wrong this year given the circumstances of fast ground and a trip beyond her best on her reappearance at York, Karl Burke's filly is 16-1 to retain her crown. Blue Bolt, meanwhile, is as short as even-money, and no bigger than 5-4.

That price discrepancy makes little sense and is an insult to a mare with five top-level victories to her name, including three at this trip last season. Fallen Angel will be fresher than most come the autumn, which is usually where she is seen at her best with a slight ease in the ground, and there are mares shorter than her in the market with no Group One victories at all.

Of course, Blue Bolt has improved since last autumn and has been a revelation this season. She was particularly impressive when winning the Falmouth on the July Course last month and warrants plenty of respect, but she is only 3lb clear of Fallen Angel on official ratings and will have had a much more arduous campaign than the grey in two months' time.

Fallen Angel was disappointing on the face of it last time in the Dick Hern Stakes, but it was no worse than she usually performs after an absence and she was easy to back in the market - I expect that Karl Burke left plenty to work on heading into the final few months of the season.

She has an exceptional record on straight courses against her own sex and it is hard to see her going off this big should she line up, which looks very likely as long as the ground does not get too quick.
