Spicy Marg may have run into July Cup picture

Spicy Marg’s connections are weighing up supplementing for the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup having fallen agonisingly short in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
Michael Bell’s filly came within a head of beating hot favourite Venetian Sun, almost causing a 50-1 shock over Karl Burke’s filly in last Friday’s Group One event.
Owned by renowned music agent Emma Banks, connections now need to decide whether to pay the £40,000 to again line up at the highest level on July 11 or head to York for the shallower waters of the Group Three William Hill Summer Stakes a day earlier.
Spicy Marg was supplemented for the Nunthorpe last season in which she finished down the field.
Bell said: “She seems to have come out of Ascot fine and we’ll bring her back into light training next week.
“I’ve always thought she had a very good performance in her from day one really and it was lovely to see her perform at the very highest level to such a high standard.
“The July Cup is an option, as is the Summer Stakes at York and we’ll see how she is and decide nearer the time whether we supplement for the Group One option or head to York which would obviously be much calmer waters.”
He went on: “A lot of it could depend on which of the international runners stick around for the July Cup and how deep a race it is before Emma Banks commits to supplementing.
“York would obviously be a lot easier but it’s not a Group One and doesn’t have the same incentives around it.”
