Jim Goldie has two horses in line for the £100,000 bonus on offer to any runner who wins three Sky Bet Sunday Series races after pulling off a notable double with the help of apprentice Amy Waugh at Thirsk, who herself had a dream day and scooped the £10,000 Jockey Cup.
The connections of American Affair and Letsbefrank can spend the next few weeks dreaming of landing the six-figure bonus on offer to any horse who wins three Sky Bet Sunday Series races following their emphatic wins for Goldie under Waugh, an apprentice who had a golden hour or so as she doubled her tally of winners for the year.
American Affair was the first to strike for Goldie and Waugh, winning the sprint handicap in commanding fashion.
He had also won at the Sunday Series fixture at Musselburgh in April. In between, he was second in another Sunday Series contest at Hamilton.
Goldie part owns him in conjunction with Barraston Racing.
Just half an hour later, Goldie and Waugh teamed up again to strike with Letsbefrank in the staying handicap.
The Frankel colt, owned by Carol Morrison, had previously won a Sunday Series contest at Hamilton.
Waugh rode a double and scooped a big bonus
Connections of both horses will now have their sights set on the final two Sky bBet Sunday Series fixtures at Haydock Park (August 4) and then Pontefract (August 18).
They effectively have two more bites of the cherry although both horses can expect another hike in the weights before then. The bonus, offered by the sponsors, has never been won but there have been near-misses.
Elsewhere on the card, the previously unbeaten Mezzo Sprano was well-fancied to make it four wins from as many starts in the Sky Bet For The Fans Fillies' Handicap but the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained four-year-old couldn’t get top grips with Mereside Diva
The Crisfords had earlier hit the target with Telemark (11/2) in the Sky Bet Build A Bet Handicap.
Alice Fairfax (5/1) confirmed the promise of her debut when landing the Cure Leukaemia Fillies' Novice Stakes for trainer Kevin Ryan.
