Our betting expert has divided his selections between Newmarket and Thirsk. Both meetings are live on Racing TV, and don't miss the Preakness on the channel in the evening!
1.05 Newmarket: Leadman
has been difficult to train and lightly raced over two seasons for Andrew Balding but did show decent form on occasions. He was picked up relatively cheaply and on the evidence of his first run for David O’Meara he may prove a decent purchase.
He finished second at Newcastle on that recent stable debut behind the well handicapped Benacre and with the well beaten third subsequently going close the form might be strong for the grade.
He has never run on fast ground, but he is by Kingman and I would expect it to suit him. His dam was also a Group Three winner ,so If O’Meara has sorted out his issues he could have a good summer.

2.10 Thirsk: Master Of My Fate
Master Of My Fate won on his racecourse debut at Pontefract, so does act on turf, but has not had many runs on this surface in his career.
He came back to form after a wind operation last winter and rattled up a hat-trick early this year. At least two of his past three runs can have a line drawn through them, as he met trouble in running at crucial stages, including last time over course and distance.
He still had Alligator Alley behind him and looked likely to figure in the finish before being short of room. He might go off at a decent price, with three duck eggs as his latest form figures.

George Boughey’s four-year-old has improved this season after a light campaign in 2024 and might have just come up against a horse who is on an even steeper upward curve when he got beat over this course and distance last time.
He is still only 6lb higher than when he won nicely on his reappearance at Redcar in a race that has already produced two winners and being raised just 2lb for his latest run looks lenient. He gets on well with Billy Loughnane and, while he will doubtless be favourite, holds a strong chance.
2.45 Thirsk: Albegone
came out of the same race as Master Of My Fate (see earlier) and was beaten by two nostrils into third after he too didn’t get the best of runs through and surely might have won otherwise.
He is 1lb better off with Muker, who won that race, which will help, but getting a decent passage through will be the key.
There are plenty of pace horses in this race, so hopefully it will be run to suit this consistent hold-up sprinter and he will get the breaks this time.
