Saturday horse racing tips: Dave Nevison’s four best bets

Our pundit Dave Nevison has advised Martha Brae (15/8), Broadway Joe (7/4), Raasel (5/6) and Dublin Four (3/1) this week and has four fancies for Saturday’s live action on Racing TV - including in the feature Betway Grand Sefton at Aintree and Badgers Beers Handicap at Wincanton.
I will be listening to the advice of others for the Breeders' Cup as I don’t remember backing a winner there since Royal Academy (who I like to claim I owned as part of my Classic Thoroughbreds “investment”).
I am going to look at the November Handicap on Friday evening and try and come up with one for Saturday’s shift in the Racing TV studio, but there are so many good races on what is an excellent weekend. As ever, I’m hoping that these four will land the each-way yankee!
12.40 Wincanton: Crealion
This lowly race might be one of the most interesting for future clues on a cracking Saturday afternoon.
I will be hoping Guy runs well in a form boost for Senior Citizen later but I have settled on Tom George’s very promising ex-French five-year-old. Crealion ran well for second at Ludlow on his reappearance – raised 2lb for that effort – while he won two chases in France last spring over similar trips to this.
Thomas Doggrell looks good value for his 8lb claim given he has been riding winners for three different trainers as well as his retainer of late, always a very good sign with conditional jockeys.
This could be a key race for the future and I have a feeling I will be tipping several of these in the coming weeks. I recommend watching these horses and good bunch of young jockeys closely.
1.08 Aintree: Remastered
It is tough to work out whether this is a warm-up before going back over fences, where he is so much higher in the weights after a really good novice season. If he were mine, I would want to utilise what looks a serious opportunity over hurdles before taking on the bigger obstacles again and I am hoping trainer David Pipe thinks the same.
Remastered could easily have finished second on both of last hurdles starts with better luck in running and he really could be genuinely well-handicapped. A win in this Pertemps qualifier would probably raise him to the perfect weight for the Final in March and give him good options.
2.15 Aintree: Senior Citizen
He has already proved himself over the Grand National fences and this looks to be his chance to win over them.
I feel the good-ish ground might be the key positive here as this distance over the big fences looks to be the outer range of his stamina. However, it might just be that he has strengthened up a little more over the summer as he was impressive on his return at Market Rasen and his jumping a feature last time.
Alan King is in terrific form and all looks set for a very good run.
3.00 Wincanton: Coup De Pinceau
I suspect this has been the target. If he doesn’t go backwards from his reappearance, he could surprise some bigger names.
Coup De Pinceau is now back below his last winning mark having been dropped 1lb for his promising reappearance over course and distance - not his only good run at this track which he seems to enjoy jumping around.
He will certainly enjoy the light weight he is carrying here, with Angus Cheleda taking a useful 7lb off. I suspect Cheleda would have been Coup De Pinceau’s work rider when the gelding was with Paul Nicholls, the jockey taking the ride in the Kim Muir last year before winning on him on stable debut for Nick Mitchell.
Coup De Pinceau lost his form after that and has now joined Ralph Smith. The yard’s three recent runners at this track have all either won or been placed.
