Racing tips from Dave Nevison: I don't like Cricket . . . I love it!

There is a slightly unusual feel to a contest of this kind, with several of the principals reappearing after failing to complete on their latest start. Storm Home is among them, but he made it to the third-last fence before falling over track and trip last time, and was staying on very nicely at the time, suggesting he might have even won had he stood up.

He can race off the same mark this afternoon and given that he had been backed that day, I feel it's worth taking a chance on him, despite the fact that his winning strike-rate has not been great. He hadn't fallen on any of seven previous starts over fences either.

Jockey Harry Kimber has ridden winners for the Tizzards and been placed over hurdles on this horse so am taking the view that the weight relief he provides is a positive and will be helpful over the three miles here.

To be frank, I am not so much on the edge of the cliff with this horse as already over the edge, but it's got to be worth one last go! It seems that Alan King might have been looking at his latest Cheltenham run through the same rose-tinted glasses as me and concluded that he no longer wanted a marathon trip, so he drops down in distance for this.

Given how well he travelled much of the way in his last run, that looks a good move, his last win having come over a similar distance. Admittedly that was over fences, but the bigger jumps just don't seem to be suiting him and reverting to hurdles looks sensible.

He is dropped down considerably in grade here having spent much of the last two seasons running largely in open handicaps and Class 1 events and the fact that this race looks set to be run at a good pace should suit his usual hold-up style. I promise to strike him from the tracker, never to return, if he doesn’t go close here. At least he's a decent double-figure price for those prepared to take the chance.

Some of the brightest talents among the condtional jockeys around all line up in this contest, but the one who I think might possibly prove the best of them all rides my selection and will hopefully make the difference between another placed effort and getting this horse's head home in front.

Some of his placed efforts recently have been better than others but he ran well last time over too short a trip and up against a handicap blot on a Wincanton track similar to this. Off the same mark, back over this distance and with an exciting young rider in the saddle, I'm hoping it's a perfect combination.
