Racing has pledged its support towards Sport Relief through a number of activities at the Cheltenham Festival designed to help get the nation moving.

The charity has set the nation the challenge of reaching a billion steps every day during the course of the week following the Festival (17th – 23rd March) with a series of initiatives taking place at Prestbury Park.

Great British Racing will set up a pop-up test area called The Cheltenham Hill Challenge on Thursday, March 15 and it will remain for the following day to coincide with the Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Great British Racing will be inviting race fans to come and take part in climbing a new version of the famous Cheltenham Hill.

Instead of trekking up the grassy incline, two treadmills will be positioned and set to the gradient of the famous hill. Racegoers will be encouraged to come and walk or run up ‘the hill’ as a warm up to Sport Relief’s daily step target

“We are very proud to be a part of Sport Relief this year and be supporting the charity in getting the public moving,” Rod Street, Chief Executive of Great British Racing, said.

"Racing is the second biggest spectator sport in the UK and so it’s great to be involved and that racegoers heading to The Festival will have their chance to take on the Cheltenham Hill challenge.”

The steps will be displayed on the Sport Relief app and Great British Racing has set up a league where various racing organisations can join and log their steps to see which team has contributed the most to the steps tally.

Money raised will help people in the UK and across the world live happier, healthier and safer lives.

As well as the Cheltenham Hill Challenge, Great British Racing will also be launching an exclusive video featuring the legendary jockey AP McCoy doing his bit for Sport Relief.

Sport Relief is a biennial charity event from Comic Relief, in association with BBC Sport, which brings together the worlds of sport and entertainment to raise money to help vulnerable people in both the UK and the world's poorest countries.
