The Racing TV pundits have both selected five horses to keep on side over the coming months. Make sure you add them to your Racing TV tracker!
EDDIE FREMANTLE
Trainer: Tony Carroll. Rating: 90.
He has not been with Tony Carroll long and was having his third start under Hollie Doyle when recording a narrow victory from a useful rival at Kempton in January. He was tried in cheekpieces for the first time and kept finding under pressure. Other horses eye-balled him, but he saw them off and he really fights. The handicapper has raised him 3lb for this victory to a rating of 90.
He is a horse that does not do anything quickly, but I think he has got an awful lot of improvement to come. Physically, he is a big horse, and he seems to be learning and is far from the finished article.
I am pretty sure he will stay further than six furlongs – his breeding suggests he will stay ten furlongs - and the way he has been campaigned this season, he is likely to end up in the All-Weather Championships Final at Lingfield, although I’m not sure that track would suit him as well.
Trainer: Ismail Mohammed. Rating: 105.
Since the cheekpieces have been applies, he has really concentrated. He seems to be more straightforward now that he was and has really grown up plus has progressed nicely since winning a handicap at Newmarket in August last year.
He was set to take on Kachy in the Cleeve Stakes at Lingfield last time out but that rival was withdrawn. However, I think he would have beaten Tom Dascombe’s sprinter, or have gone very close to beating him, with what he showed when winning that Listed contest.
What impressed me two outings ago at Newcastle was that connections dropped him back to five furlongs from the six-and-a-half he won over at Deauville in December and he made the running into the teeth of a real gale, but he still managed to win and the third has been successful since.
He doesn’t have to go from the front, he’s versatile regarding distance and is entitled to be favourite on All-Weather finals day. He could easily make up into a Group contender on turf.
Trainer: David Menuisier. Rating: 77.
I was really taken with her before her first run at Lingfield over six furlongs and that trip was clearly inadequate. She then went to Newbury for another six-furlong race before she won at Lingfield over seven furlongs and I think that trip really suited her well.
She finished fourth in a hot nursery at Newbury in September and those who finished in front of her have franked the form since. I liked her attitude when she won at Lingfield and she doesn’t do anything quickly.
She is an outstanding looking filly and looks like she has a lot of quality. She is certain to carry on improving this season. I am surprised connections haven’t run her on the all-weather yet because she has got an American-dirt pedigree. There may even be opportunities for her in the States in the future and her trainer is not afraid of taking his horses worldwide.
She has loads of scope and is only rated 77, and I certainly think she will be able to win races off that mark as there could be a lot more to come plus she ought to stay further than seven furlongs.
Horse: GREYCOAT
Trainer: James Fanshawe. Rating: --

chelmsford-city

17:30 Chelmsford-City - Thursday October 24
Greycoat caught the eye on debut at Chelmsford in October
He didn’t have much clue what was happening early on when third in debut at Chelmsford in October. He came out of the stalls extremely slowly, but he started to make progress in behind horses turning into the straight and came home very strongly. He will have learnt a lot from that run and he responded all the way to the finish.
Physically, I thought he was one for next year, so I am not surprised he hasn’t appeared since.
He’s a son of Lethal Force and is closely related to Baron Bolt who operated over six and seven furlongs.
Greycoat may stay a bit further than that and was strong at the finish on debut. The form of that race hasn’t particularly been tested yet, but James Fanshawe said his youngster has been pleasing him since.
I am not saying he is going to be a superstar but looks sure to get some wins on the board.
Trainer: Mark Johnston. Rating: 70.
It has taken a long time for the penny to drop with this horse and I think it is because he is a real big horse who has been a bit babyish.
I think he needs plenty of encouragement during his races, but he does respond and it he looked to be learning for his first few runs.
He has finally worked out what it is all about on his last two starts. He fought really bravely to get the better of Dolla Dolla Bill a couple of outings ago and last time out, he again looked beaten Wolverhampton but kept finding more and looks much classier than what he has rated.
He is a physically-imposing sort who may progress through the ranks now he has learnt what it is all about.
The distance he has scored by on his last two starts suggests to me he can stay ahead of the handicapper. He should get further as well judged by his latest start.
RACHEL CANDELORA
Trainer: Michael Appleby. Rating: 59.
He was having his first start for Michael Appleby when successful at Chelmsford in January when sent off the well-back joint favourite.
Appleby is capable of taking a horse that has been in the doldrums and massively improve them, and this was the case with this horse.
He bounded away from his rivals and the handicapper has penalised him with an 11lb rise for that victory.
He will be well-in if he is turned out quickly (he is declared to run at Chelmsford on Friday) and looks the type to run up a sequence plus he has been rated as high as 74 in the past.
Trainer: Alan King. Rating: 105.
Rainbow Dreamer is an eight-time winner under both codes, including hurdles, turf and the all-weather.
He also finished second to Defi Du Seuil over jumps in 2017. He is now 4-4 on the all-weather and has recorded a hat-trick of wins this winter.
He was successful in a fast-track qualifier last time out where he beat Funny Kid plus he also had Raymond Tusk in behind who is a Group Two winner in Italy.
He will have a big shout if he turns up for the All-Weather Championships marathon which he qualified for at Wolverhampton.
Alan King likes to keep his horses on the go, so I would expect to see Rainbow Dreamer out again in a couple of weeks.
Horse: BANGKOK
Trainer: Andrew Balding. Rating: 115.
He is a horse with lots of potential and promise but has seemed to have a slight problem getting his head in front.
On his all-weather debut in the Winter Derby Trial atLingfield, he got his head back in front in the style of an incredibly good horse. He beat Court House there and also broke the track record.
His action was glorious on the polytrack at Lingfield and he is a half-brother to Matterhorn.
That success should have boosted his confidence and he can now go forward from this. Connections are now considering sending their four-year-old to Saudi, or to Lingfield for the Winter Derby.
He’s growing into himself now and looks to have a bright future.
Trainer: Hugo Palmer. Rating: --

kempton-park

17:40 Kempton-Park - Wednesday November 20
Watch how Eastern Sheriff scored on his debut at Kempton
There were a lot of nice horses in behind Eastern Sheriff when he scored on debut at Kempton in November and he produced a very professional performance.
He galloped his rivals into submission and James Doyle was not too hard on him plus he took a while to pull up after the line.
I love him from a pedigree perspective as he is a full brother to St Leger winner Harbour Law and a mile is unlikely to suit for the duration of his career.
I think he will be a really exciting horse for middle distance races on the turf this year and is potentially a future Bahrain International contender.
He’s big and when he grows into himself, he will be a really exciting prospect later in the season.
Horse: STARCAT
Trainer: Hughie Morrison. Rating: --
I don’t usually view a Hughie Morrison-trainer newcomer as one to back first time out, they are usually long-term prospects.
He is a big, galloping type and showed plenty of greenness when successful on debut at Kempton in December and I loved the way he went through a gap considering it was his first run. The form of that race has also worked out well.
He cost 125,000gns as a yearling and his dam, Purr Along, was a dual Group Three winner, including on the all-weather.
Starcat has got a Derby entry and a big, galloping track is sure to suit.
