Beylerbeyi is in the form of his life and promises to make a bold bid in the 1m 4f Racing League 20 Handicap at Chepstow (8.00) on Thursday night, a race which is live on ITV4.
The Ian Williams-trained five-year-old is seeking a swift hat-trick of wins after successive victories at York and Newmarket, with the RaceiQ data suggesting he can prove equal to ,the task.
He's habitually slow to reach 20mph, being the last to reach that speed in his past four starts, but perhaps that is a little by design as he usually swoops from off the pace.
Beylerbeyi hammered the opposition in another 1m 4f handicap at Newmarket last Saturday, clocking the fastest furlong and highest speed (just over 39mph) along the way.
The race was run at a brisk tempo for the first five furlongs, but Beylerbeyi had plenty left in the closing stages, being fastest in each of the final three furlongs. He was the only horse to dip under 12 seconds in the penutltimate furlong (11.76sec) and was the only one to slide under 13 seconds in the last furlong.
The handicapper has raised him 8lb for that effort, but he merely has a 5lb penalty to carry on Thursday.
Before that win on the July Course, he had also finished with a flourish to score at York. Again, he registered the fastest furlong and top speed (41.78mph).
In contrast to that Newmarket race, they went steady for the first six furlongs before the tempo was increased. Beylerbeyi looked vulnerable out the back, but he was then quickest of the whole field in each of the final six furlongs.
His successive sub 11-second furlongs in furlongs nine and ten edged him closer before he got the better of Albany in the closing stages. A stronger gallop looks on the cards this time, as Something invariably goes a good gallop.
