Aidan O’Brien’s Guineas heroines Precise and True Love are among 12 fillies to go forward for the Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Friday, live on Racing TV.
True Love came out on top when the Ballydoyle pair first clashed in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May, but Precise turned the tables emphatically in the Irish equivalent three weeks ago and confirmed the form when the pair met for a third time in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.
O’Brien left in both fillies at the confirmation stage for next week’s Group One feature on day two of the July Festival and also supplemented Venosa – last seen trailing home last of 15 in the French Guineas – at a cost of £20,000.
The Owen Burrows-trained Touleen split Precise and True Love when filling the runner-up spot at the Royal meeting and is also in the mix for this all-aged affair.
Donnacha O’Brien’s Balantina can be expected to improve on her fifth place finish in the Coronation, given she had been off the track since winning at the Breeders’ Cup in November, while the two star older fillies are Andrew Balding’s Duke of Cambridge Stakes winner Blue Bolt and Karl Burke’s five-time Group One winner Fallen Angel.
Burke has also left in the Newmarket Guineas-runner-up Evolutionist, who has since disappointed in the French Oaks, and his fellow Wensleydale-based trainer Charlie Johnston has both Timeforshowcasing and Venetian Lace in contention.
Jancis (Willie McCreery) and Kon Tiki (Jane Chapple-Hyam) complete the potential field.
