Wednesday’s all-weather action at Kempton Park covers a twilight card which kicks off from 3.40pm and carries through until 7.15pm.
The first six contests on the card make up an interesting and varied card of Flat racing action and below you will find some helpful pointers, along with a suggested perm.
How’s the going?
There’s a bit of rain, sleet and snow around the south this midweek and Kempton is set to find a bit of it on the track, but the surface will remain Standard to Slow as per usual.
The Big Trend:
In 2020, the recently engaged Tom Marquand rode 20 winners from 134 rides, a 15% which isn’t outstanding, but the top riding prospect produced a +28.56pts level stakes profit. He has a full book of rides on Wednesday and the ones within the Placepot pool are listed below. All are worthy of note, but the one making it into our perm is in bold.
Leg 1 - 3:40 - Popple
Leg 2 - 4:10 - Zayriyan
Leg 3 - 4:40 - Acquisitor
Leg 4 - 5:10 - Decadent
Leg 5 - 6:15 - Who Dares Wins
Leg 6 - 7:15 - Wiley Post
Placepot Banker:
NORTONTHORPE BOY (Leg 4, 5.10pm) runs again for trainer Phil McEntee having scored stylishly at Wolverhampton last time out from a mark of 58. He has a 6lb penalty to contend with this time along with a change of track. But he seems to be a versatile sort and if he takes to Kempton, there’s a big chance he’ll follow up under the penalty. In any case, a place run looks like it should be a formality. Major J and Banoffee under Hollie Doyle look the main dangers but Nortonthorpe Boy is legitimate banker material on Wednesday.
Outsiders to Consider:
HARAZ (Leg 1, 3.40pm) is no great shakes around Kempton and in general, but he’s well handicapped here on his best form and may be too big a price to ignore. A good 5lb claimer gets the ride and Haraz could sneak into this.
CROWDED EXPRESS (Leg 2, 4.10pm) runs in leg two and is another that could be overlooked in the market under top young jockey Cieran Fallon. This horse ran better than the finishing position suggests at Wolverhampton last time and could show up well from stall five this afternoon.
Torpedo Leg:
It may only have just eight runners, but the final leg of the pool at 6.15pm is a really tight-knit puzzle. A Class 2 contest over two miles, pretty much every horse in this field has claims to a top 3 or 4 spot and for that reason it makes some sense to have a couple of horses on side.
TRUE DESTINY is interesting for trainer Roger Charlton on the back of some fine all-weather runs in defeat over this trip lately. He sports first-time cheekpieces today. Also, Philip Kirby’s STARGAZER is not one to discount with lots of quality form to his name, for all he does have a patchy profile.
Our Placepot Perm:
Leg 1: Jeanette May, Haraz
Leg 2: Fuwairt
Leg 3: Black Sparrow, Acquisitor
Leg 4: Nortonthorpe Boy
Leg 5: Tampere
Leg 6: True Destiny, Stargazer
