It was a wonderful weekend where there were plenty of brilliant performances. Saturday saw four Tote Placepot dividends soar above the three-figure mark.
We looks to help you win a share of the pool today from
Carlisle. Read on to find out who we will be looking to return with the goods.
How’s the going?
After a week of no rain the going was getting very quick at the majority of racecourses up and down the country. However, after one night of persistent rainfall the going has changed to heavy at Carlisle and we will be looking out for a mudlark or two to help us out.
The Big Trend
It is fair to say that the season is only just getting started, however with two with three wins at Carlisle already this season, Champion Jockey Brian Hughes is once again the man to be wary of. He has 43 wins in his last 231 rides and he will be looking to ensure his lead at the top of the standings goes unchallenged today. He has six rides today, five fall in Placepot races.
Placepot Banker
Fergal O'Brien’s brilliant start to the season is one of the talking points of the season so far. He saddles up Champagne Well (1:20pm, Leg 2) here and he will not want to lose the momentum coming into a very important part of the year. Champagne Well had a brilliant time last year and his form is now looking very strong. A second to Thyme Hill, Redford Road and Ramses De Teillee is very good going and if he can bring that sort of ability out again, we would expect him to win.
Outsider to Consider
The opening race of the Tote Placepot is a maiden hurdle where often punters can be surprised. Ben Pauling thinks a lot of Severance so it is very exciting to see him out for the first time. However, it is Word Has It (12:50pm, Leg 1) that raises eyebrows. He has has a lot more experience over obstacles and having made two very underwhelming performances so far, it is about time he got to the front and showed what he is capable of.
Torpedo Leg
The final leg of the Tote Placepot is a fascinating one. No one near the top of the weights is in great form so we are looking towards the less talented and equipped to spring a surprise. Bluefortytwo (3:30pm, Leg 6) will be ridden by that man Brian Hughes and having dusted off the cobwebs last time out at Hexham will be looking to recapture the form he showed at the end of last season.
