Roscommon is a sharp, right-handed track and it can pay to not be too far off the pace here, a point emphasised when the going is Good, as it will be on Monday. Crisp and accurate jumping is important here and some experience on tighter tracks doesn’t go amiss.
Gordon Elliott trains the most winners here in recent seasons, but Willie Mullins is the most surgical in targeting his horses here, boasting an outstanding 39% strike rate in the past five seasons. He runs three horses on Monday and all have highly notable claims, but only two fit into the first six races of the Placepot pool:
Leg 2: 1:45 - Killultagh Bella
Leg 5: 3:15 - Andalusa
We can kick off the Placepot with FASSBENDER in Leg 1 at 1:15pm, who sets a fair standard for this average looking 2m maiden hurdle. Mark McNiff’s four-year-old was well held in fourth last time over 2m3f, but he recorded a decent speed figure in defeat and this drop in trip looks sure to suit. He has more experience than this lot and looks sure to make a bold bid.
FLOATING AROUND (Leg 3, 2:15pm) was well held at Tramore last time out, which was somewhat disappointing as she’d been holding her performance figures pretty well lately. She may need a little help from the handicapper, but equally her A to B speed figures are comparably good to most in this field and thus, she could sneak into the places at a nice price.
Any kind of novices’ chase at this time of year is a tricky affair and Leg 6 at 3:45pm is one such Beginners' Chase over the extended 2m5f distance. Fort Worth Texas has bright claims on her Punchestown and Cheltenham efforts earlier in the year, but she was well out of sorts this month on her return. One for the shortlist though. Amor Verdadero runs for Gordon Elliott and she brings some useful hurdling form to the table. This mentioned pair make up an agreeable pair to have on side in the Placepot.
