Pacharana claims seventh career victory with impressive display at Bath

Prolific winner Pacharana bolted up in the Rainbow Casinos Cardiff Fillies' Handicap at Bath and is now likely to be stepped up in class.

Luca Cumani first managed to win with the Oasis Dream filly last July off a lowly mark of 57 and 12 months on she was registering her seventh success from a rating of 83.

In true Cumani style, he has brought her along steadily but given the 4-1 chance made a mockery of the handicapper in winning by eight lengths, her sights will now have to be raised.

Kieran Shoemark, no longer claiming, was riding her for the first time and the result was never in doubt.

Cumani said: "We weren't thinking of black-type races before today but she had never looked like doing anything like that before.

"She's a lovable, tough, genuine filly who keeps on improving.

"Maybe the handicapper won't allow us another chance and we'll have to start thinking of a Listed race. We'll see how she comes out of this first.

"You couldn't put the improvement down to the soft ground, either, as she's won on fast ground before, she goes on anything.

"She really is an admirable filly and she does exactly what you want her to do, which you can't always say about females!"

The Ron Harris-trained Secret Potion caused a 16-1 upset in the Rainbow Casino Birmingham Handicap.

Ridden by Sam Hitchcott, he made just about all the running but had to see off the persistent challenge of Love Oasis in the final furlong.

"The soft ground really helped him," said Harris.

"He won his maiden at Bath on fast ground so that is what I always thought he wanted.

"As he's got older and stronger he's better able to handle cut and now that's what he needs."

The Hot To Trot syndicate were out of luck in France at the weekend when their Royal Ascot winner Heartache finished only third in the Prix Robert Papin, but the owners received small compensation through Golden Salute.

It has since emerged that Heartache pulled muscles so she will be back and while Golden Salute was winning at a much lower level for Andrew Balding in the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes, it was a fourth winner from just seven runners for the syndicate this year.

The 5-4 favourite was made to pull out all the stops by 40-1 chance Little Boy Blue but scraped home by a head under former pony rider William Cox.

Desert Cross (11-4) was a rare winner on the Flat for Jonjo O'Neill in the Rainbow Casino Aberdeen Handicap under Fran Berry, who doubled up on Joe Tuite's Fast Dancer (3-1 favourite) in the closing Rainbow Casinos Open 24/7 Handicap.
