Night In Vegas won at Ascot on his debut
The wait is almost over for Kennet Valley Syndicate members to realise the dream of any owner, a Royal Ascot runner, with their Coventry Stakes hopeful Night In Vegas.
The Eve Johnson-Houghton trained colt, a son of Lucky Vega, posted a sparkling debut victory over the Coventry course and distance in May and followed up by defying penalty a penalty in comfortable fashion at Goodwood 13 days later.
All focus now lies on the Coventry on Tuesday, for which he is a general 14-1.
Night In Vegas was purchased for 60,000gns at the Book 3 Tattersalls Yearling Sale, and his connections are savouring the chance of a Royal triumph with their unbeaten colt.
Aidan O’Brien landed the race for a record-extending eleventh time last year, courtesy of Gstaad, and he has the ante-post market leaders in Confucius and Great Barrier Reef, with the Wathnan Racing-owned Ruler’s Pride, trained by Karl Burke, next in the betting.

The syndicate members are aware they may be David taking on Goliath on the biggest stage, but are relishing the prospect.
“We are almost excited at being an underdog, we’re looking forward to going up against the Coolmore and Wathnan battalions,” says Syndicate Manager Sam Hoskins. “The horse doesn’t know he is a 60,000gns buy going up against [much more] expensive horses and he deserves to line up there.
“He did one of his last pieces of work on Wednesday and it went very well. The upcoming weather looks fair so the ground should be no issue, and he obviously likes the course and distance.”
Hoskins added: “Charlie [Bishop] and Eve [Johnson-Houghton] both love the horse, so we are hoping he can be in the shake-up.
“He has 16 owners and pretty much all of them will be there with their partners and families, so win, lose or draw, it will be a great experience for us.
“He is a straightforward horse so he should be able to cope with the day and we hope he will come out of it well and continue to progress.”
