2.00 York: Stratusnine

Hugo Palmer's four-year-old Stratusnine has been running big races without quite winning recently, but I think this could be the day it all comes together.
He's proven at York, having only just failed to get up over 5f here in May in a race that's proven to be strong form. He then ran well at Royal Ascot, before doing exceptionally well at Chester last time to be beaten less than a length despite having the widest draw to contend with.
Statistically a lower draw is ideal over this course and distance, so stall nine looks ideal and there's a lot of pace around him to follow through.
3.48 Chester: Calico Blue (Nap)

There won't be fancy prices on offer about Calico Blue winning this 6f handicap for three-year-olds, but Roger Varian's inmate really should take the world of beating here.
He ran at Chester twice last year, winning both times, beating subsequent listed winner Chairmanfourtimes on the first occasion and then bolting up under a penalty, so clearly the tight, turning track on the Roodee suits him perfectly.
He hasn't got a win on the board this year, but he's still improved his form, going down narrowly in a valuable handicap on the July Course last time. That appeals as strong form.
A plum draw in stall two ought to ensure a perfect trip around the inside under Ray Dawson and I expect him to win this en route to better things.

4.10 Ascot: Edwin Hubble

It hasn't been the year that Brian Meehan would've hoped for so far with only three winners in 2026, but there have been more positive signs from the yard of late and Edwin Hubble looked an unlucky loser to me when runner-up at Windsor last month.
Held-up off a steady pace that day, he didn't get a smooth passage and stayed on well, but the winner, Astrological, had got first run.
That form received a boost when the third won next time and I'd expect this to be a more truly-run race that'll see him to better effect.
Edwin Hubble is from the family of Kalanisi, so is bred to stay well and keep on progressing with time and racing.
I'd prefer a slightly higher draw, but hopefully Tom Marquamd can navigate a passage through and 13-2 at the time of writing is fair value.
