Leading owners Wathnan Racing have bolstered their ranks a week out from Royal Ascot with the signing of David Menuisier’s London Gold Cup hero Lost Boys.
The Emir of Qatar’s racing entity are a growing force at the Royal meeting, topping the owners’ standings for the first time 12 months ago and determined for more success.
Alongside their established stars, they have already snapped up the likes of George Boughey’s Protection Act and Ed Walker’s 1000 Guineas fourth The Prettiest Star in the build up and have now added further depth to their ever-growing teamsheet.
Announcing the acquisition, Wathnan’s racing adviser Richard Brown said: “It was hard not be hugely impressed by his performance at Newbury the other day.
“He cruised through the race, running with great enthusiasm, before quickening well and winning the fight for first place.
“It’s a race with an incredible roll of honour, and as a May-foaled son of Night Of Thunder, he’s got bags of upside. We’re really excited about his future.”
Lost Boys followed in the footsteps of Defoe (2017), Bay Bridge (2021) and most recently Saddadd by winning Newbury’s typically competitive 10-furlong event on Lockinge day and having tasted success in his last three starts – including both outings this term – will bid to extend his streak in the Golden Gates Stakes on the final day of Royal Ascot.
