By Andy Stephens at York
The American-based trainer flew into England on Tuesday afternoon and gave a glowing update on his flying filly when making a guest appearance at a preview night at York racecourse later in the evening.
Asked how the dazzling King’s Stand winner was, he replied: “She’s phenomenal. I was very happy and when I saw her her today - she’s blossoming and really enjoying it.
“Mentally, the way she’s coming into it she’s going to run her best race and I’m hoping that will be good enough.”
Lady Aurelia will be re-opposed by Group One winners Profitable and Marsha, who chased her home at Royal Ascot, as well as the rapidly progressive Battaash, unbeaten in three starts this term and fluent winner in the King George Stakes at Goodwood this month, having previously lowered the course record at Sandown.
“It’s going to be a very exciting race and very tough but I think she’s up to the challenge,” Ward said.
Of Battaash, he added: “Any time you come into his home court, this country, it is going to be tough but I couldn’t be happier with the filly.” Lady Aurelia put up an impressive piece of work at York under Frankie Dettori on Friday.
Dettori felt like he was going a million miles per an hour on Lady Aurelia
Afterwards the jockey told Racing UK: “She felt great. I haven't ridden her since last year's Cheveley Park. Obviously I saw her before Ascot, but I never actually sat on her.
“She hasn't overly grown, but she hasn't lost her speed. This morning, especially with the tailwind, I felt like I was going a million miles an hour.”
Lady Aurelia is a best-priced 6-4 with BetBright, while Battaash is a general 7-4. The rest are 10-1 or bigger.
