Our paddock expert nominates a nap for Newmarket on Saturday plus some names to note in this latest update. Nap of the weekend
Unequal Love (5.00 Newmarket on Saturday)
Trainer: William Haggas
The 6f Pinatubo British EBF Boadicea Stakes at Newmarket looks a competitive 6f Listed race and I like the way this filly comes here on the back of a winning performance at Pontefract. Overall, this three-year-old has had a productive season, winning four of her past five outings. She has displayed versatility regarding ground and trip. I see no reason given all the ingredients why she cannot run another big race.

There were two divisions of this 7f maiden at Kempton on Wednesday and I was very much taken by the size and scope of this chestnut gelding by Zoustar. As he strutted around the paddock, he looked a size bigger than all his opponents. Once the stalls opened, he looked to be in top gear for most of the race and was slightly green coming around the final bend, but once this long striding juvenile picked up the bridle he won in a decent time. Looking at his physique, the best is still to come next year.

Making her racecourse debut this filly by Lightning Spear looked a racey type, but she was betrayed by her inexperience and found herself trailing early on. Once negotiating the final bend this bay had plenty of ground to make up on the leaders, but once understanding what was required, I was impressed by the amount of ground she made up to finish fifth. With this experience to call upon she promises to be a different proposition next time.

One to note for next week
Paddington (Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot)
Trainer: Aidan O'Brien
This three-year-old has had a wonderful season - winning the Irish 2000 Guineas, St James’s Palace Stakes, Coral-Eclipse and Sussex Stakes. He was favourite for the Juddmonte International at York last time, but had to settle for a close third. It looked as if it was one race too many given his busy campaign. He has been given time to freshen up and will return after a 59-day absence. Given the form on offer from the rest of the field, he is the one to beat.
