Ken Condon hoping for soft ground for Success Days Ascot bid

Ken Condon is hoping for testing ground at Ascot on British Champions Day to enable Success Days to show his best.
Winner of the York Stakes earlier in the season, he was last of 10 in the Irish Champion Stakes when the drying ground was against him.
While Condon is well aware that his grey falls just short of the highest class, he also knows he is capable of closing the gap on soft ground in the Qipco Champion Stakes.
"He's come out of the race fine, but he tried to chase Eminent and he was taken out of his comfort zone," said Condon.
"The ground was beautiful, but not from his point of view. He has no secrets from the assessors and he runs to his mark more often than not.
"He's rated 114 and in soft/heavy ground that is the mark he runs to, which means when he comes up against higher-rated horses and the ground is like that, it brings them down to his level.
"In top company he has to have softer ground to bring it in his favour.
"He's been wonderful for us, though, winning Group races each year for the past three seasons.
"The owner is keen to have one more crack at a Group One so we'll head to Ascot and and we should have more of a chance of getting his ground.
"If it is soft Barney Roy might run in the QEII and I'm not sure who else might run."
