July Cup Day World Pool preview: Four winning tips at HQ

Lord Of Winterfell caught the eye when third in a lesser race at Salisbury, while Subscription is from the family of superstar Enable and is also of interest as a result.  

This quality 1400m (7f) handicap looks sure to be run at a frenetic gallop, with Song N Dance, Just A Girl and Shallow all keen on getting on with things, which should suit PLANET SEEKER who is likely to be held up now ridden by Jamie Spencer for the first time. She won on quick ground on debut and is out of Dancing Star who won here on the July Course and over this longer trip. Fellow handicap debutante Machadadorp is respected most in her hat-trick bid; her mark looks potentially more favourable than that of C&D winner True Test. 

This 1600m (8f) contest is another that Appleby has excelled in, and he has another leading candidate in TALES OF WISDOM who rates much better than able to show after a slow start at Royal Ascot behind Moonfall. The latter’s rise in the weights looks manageable but he’s yet to show his best form in Newmarket, unlike the selection who pulled a long way clear with Bayaann when winning his novice. St Anton and Wild Thoughts are both enjoying excellent seasons, but this looks a tough race, and bigger dangers may prove to be Alfaraz and Eklleem who both broke their maiden tags last time out. 

THE FINGAL RAVEL looks to have the perfect draw in-between the frontrunners Nostrum and Physique in this historic 1400m (7f) handicap and he could offer some value against the likes of Supido, for whom Ryan Moore looks a strong booking, and the Buckingham Palace Stakes second and third Elarak and Great Acclaim. The Jamie Osborne-trained selection wasn’t disgraced here last August, has been in good form over the winter in Dubai, and rates better than he could show from too far back at Royal Ascot last time. 

A strong-looking renewal of this 1400m (7f) Group Two, which could boil down to a duel between Abraham Lincoln and AL HUDAIBA. Having bounced back well from unseating his rider, the last-named gets the nod due to his greater experience – especially at this unique venue – and his proven ability over this trip. There’s little doubt that Abraham Lincoln - one of the most expensive yearlings sold at public auction last year - will stay this longer distance, but he comes up against an exciting colt who represents a yard with a fine record in this race (have won six of the last 10 renewals).  

Normally confidence would be higher in Venetian Sun completing her hat-trick as she receives plenty of weight from the older males, but connections report that she is in season and there’s no guarantee of her producing her best. Instead, the vote goes to Japanese star sprinter SATONO REVE who held a more prominent position throughout when just touched off by the re-opposing Almeraq in the Jubilee Stakes. Mission Central also won at Royal Ascot but his best form has been over a strongly-run 1000m, so a bigger threat could come from the extremely progressive Wokingham Stakes winner Double Rush. 

French recruit EXPOSURE links up with Ryan Moore for the first time on his second start for John & Thady Gosden, so gets the nod in this competitive 1400m (7f) handicap having caught the eye in defeat three weeks ago. Crimson Spirit is another who ran well last time, and is one to consider closely along with the unexposed Pinatubo’s Legacy, Carlisle fourth Secret History who should relish the drop in trip, and Nikovo, for whom Oisin Murppy looks an interesting jockey booking for an in-form yard. 

A small field, but one full of in-form handicappers with none comfortably ruled out. Melek Alreeh has an excellent record over this 2400m (12f) distance but is reluctantly passed over on his reappearance in favour of recent Thirsk winner PARISIAN SCHOLAR who could get an easy lead and he still looks fairly treated by the handicapper. Cape Fear, having finally got his head in front last time, and First Officer, who represents last year’s winning stable, may prove the main dangers.
