Johnny Ward's Irish Angle: Two top tips for Cork on Saturday

Our Irish racing expert Johnny Ward tipped winners advised at 18-1, 12-1 and 9-1 in December and has a couple of fancies at Cork on Saturday.

Due to the risk of frost overnight, there will be an 8am precautionary inspection at Cork on Saturday.

It's is a pretty trappy card at the Mallow venue, but I like a couple of horses.

12.30 Cork: Majestic Maid at a general 11-2

Hes A Hardy Bloke is the likely favourite here, but few appeal and Majestic Maid looks overpriced.

She relishes Cork and bad ground, finishing third in a good bumper here and winning a maiden hurdle easily at this track two starts ago.

She was not disgraced in Listed company at Punchestown last time out, and was still in contention coming into the straight, and that was a tough challenge in the circumstances.

She ticks plenty of boxes in this and is worth siding with.

1.38 Cork: Velvet Elvis at 7-4 with Paddy Power and Betfair

Finished: 1stSP: 11/8

This one had Johngus - who finished fourth - 24 lengths behind him when well clear of the third on his hurdling debut at Fairyhouse in December.

On that evidence, he stays well and has every chance of beating Pat's Pick, who has been seemingly difficult to keep sound, and has to give him 4lb.
