Top pundit Martin Dixon shares his best bets for the action at Sandown Park and Ayr on Saturday. Enjoy both meetings live on Racing TV.
1.50 Sandown: Kaka's Cousin (each-way at 15-2)
The EBF Final is often one of the most competitive handicaps of the season outside of the big Festivals and not a race I'll be getting too heavily involved in but Kaka's Cosuin strikes me as a sure-fire improver stepping back up in distance.
He's a well-bred gelding, from the family of Oscar Whisky, and created a good impression on me when I saw him win at Catterick on his hurdling debut despite jumping right and finding the track tighter than ideal.
He dealt with Kelso over 2m surprisingly well last time which suggests he's improving quickly and I'm optimistic the longer trip and a right-handed track will see him in an even better light.
2.07 Ayr: Netywell
It's more than two years now since Netywell last won and I can't say he's a horse for maximum faith, but nevertheless I think this is a perfect race for him from a declining handicap mark.
He has a good course record, is best in a small field and there was more encouragement on his most recent start despite that coming in January when the stable were going through a quiet spell. This is a weak contest and, if his jumping holds up, he might be hard to beat.
3.00 Sandown: Western Charm (each-way at 11-1)
There was such drastic improvement in Western Charm from her debut to bolting up at Wincanton last time that I'm anticipating further progress from Anthony Honeyball's mare.
She bounded clear on testing ground that day like a mare with plenty of stamina, so I'm not concerned about the stiffer track and a stronger tempo in this better-class field will probably suit. She's a double-figure price at the time of writing and is worth a small each-way bet for a yard that do well in this sphere.
