Incredible prizes up for grabs ahead of ROR fundraising day

On Sunday, September 4, eight racing teams will do battle in the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) Racing to Cricket day at the prestigious Wormsley Cricket Ground to win this year’s RoR Racing to Cricket Trophy. Now in its third year, the day’s cricket action will be enjoyed by over 240 guests attending the sell-out fundraising day at the private estate of the Getty family.

Teams playing representing the yards of Charlie Hills, Richard Hannon, Ben Pauling, Mick Channon, Paul Roy Racing, a combined Newmarket team with trainers George Boughey, James Ferguson and Charlie Fellowes and last year’s WINNER’S Nicky Henderson. In addition, the day’s new principal sponsor Irwin Mitchell will field their team.

The fundraising day features an exclusive live auction and raffle with a host of incredible lots and prizes generously donated by trainers, owners and RoR supporters. A total of eleven lots will go under the hammer with renowned charity auctioneer Martin Pope at 1.30pm on Sunday 4th September and in advance of the day bids can be made up to 5pm on Saturday 4th September by email [email protected].

One of the star lots is a week’s stay for 10 people in the luxury Abbadia Celestina villa in Umbria, Italy, with its own six-hole golf course, tennis court and truffle woods (www.abbadiacelestina.com) kindly donated by Graham Smith-Bernal, owner of Newsells Park Stud.

Other fantastic lots have been donated by owners Paul and Susan Roy including two Centre Court debenture tickets at the Wimbledon Championships 2023 with champagne lunch in the debenture lounge, and the exclusive use of a fully catered private box for 14 people on the finishing line at Ascot Racecourse for a flat or jumps meeting.

In addition, racing fans can bid for membership of the Kingsclere Racing Club for 2023, which over the past five seasons has enjoyed 36 winners and 66 places, as well as a share in the George Scott and Charlie Fellowes “Off The Bridle” The Podcast Syndicate III. Plus there is a chance to bid on a day to experience Newmarket for eight people, with lunch and an exclusive visit to Banstead Manor Stud to meet the legendary Frankel donated by Juddmonte.

Also going under the auctioneer’s hammer is a race sponsorship package at Stratford racecourse, a morning on the gallops with Richard Hannon and prime tickets for the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials with an exclusive private stable tour.

Finally, there are two exciting nominations for the 2023 season to stallions standing at Overbuy Stud, including Ardad, a leading first-crop sire in 2021 with the Gr.1 winner Perfect Power, and also for exciting young National Hunt sire Jack Hobbs winner of the Irish Deby and Sheena Classic, donated by Overbury Stud and Godolphin & Partners respectively.

Following last year’s successful event which raised over £70,000, money raised from this year’s RoR Racing to Cricket Day will be used by the charity to continue to fund the development of activities to support new owners and riders taking responsibility for former racehorses allowing former racehorses to have successful second career options when their racing days are over.
