Horse racing tips: Dave Nevison's Hamilton and Epsom picks

Our pundit and resident website tipster Dave Nevison likes the look of three runners at Hamilton Park and Epsom Downs on Thursday. Enjoy further action from Leicester, Leopardstown and Killarney live on Racing TV.

2.50 Hamilton: Rain Cap

He looks to have plenty going for him here.

Rain Cap hit a rich vein of form from mid-July last year, winning three handicaps in rapid succession and kicking off that sequence here at Hamilton. He also backed up a sprint handicap win in less than a fortnight during that run.

The six-year-old made a sudden return to form when well-backed last time out and, even though he has a 5lb penalty for beating the reopposing Agonyclite here, he won cosily at Catterick and can confirm that form.

Rain Cap won off a 1lb higher mark last year than this current rating and it looks like his trainer John David Riches has done a very good job at getting his charge handicapped. Sean Kirrane has been on board for the last four wins and is back on Rain Cap here.

4.55 Hamilton: Blazer Two

Given the form of the Lucinda Russell yard, she might be a good choice here on stable debut.

Blazer Two has hardly been the most consistent performer, but this change of scenery may have freshened him up and he certainly won’t lack for fitness given he ran under Michael Scudamore’s licence only a few weeks ago. I think he may have the potential to improve from this mark of 53.

Blazer Two won on his seasonal return in May by making all and, given he is drawn in stall 1 here with Joe Fanning in the saddle - probably still the best jockey out there from the front – the five-year-old could be one to be with.

5.55 Epsom: Goldsmith

The run at Sandown last time was his first outing since April and, if he comes on a little now, he can go very well here.

I put up Goldsmith at a double- figure price on that occasion aand fortunately his young rider got him into third from way back in an amateurs-only event. I was relieved rather than impressed with that performance, but I still reckon Goldsmith is one to stick with for a handicap on turf.

Trainer Alice Haynes has booked a decent young rider in Christian Howarth, and he can still claim 3lb in this event restricted to apprentice riders.
