Dave Nevison likes the chances of three horses running at Beverley on Tuesday. Watch how his selections fare live on Racing TV. Burtonwood returns to Beverley on Tuesday where his record is exemplary having won twice and finished second four times at this venue, especially considering he’s a hold-up performer that often meets trouble in-running.
He was successful over this course and distance off a 2lb lower mark last year and in this big field where bookmakers will be offering extra places, he looks a bet to nothing.
He will undoubtedly start slowly, but there is sufficient pace inside of his draw in stall nine that suggests his rivals will be slowing as he picks up.
Ben Curtis is a strong jockey booking, and Burtonwood’s chance is obvious in this 0-55 handicap, the lowest grade he has contested in his career.
I have suffered anguish with this horse the last twice, but I can’ t give up on him just yet as he is certainly in form, and might just get the breaks he needs to win here.
Michael Dods is clearly trying everything to win with his seven-year-old, who always runs well here, and has changed his headgear from cheekpieces to a visor for this contest.
His last win, which was almost three years ago, came on good to soft going which is forecast here and, with a strong pace guaranteed, he looks set to go close.
He has been beaten three time off a 1lb lower mark on his past three starts, but the handicapper has had to raise him back up for those efforts and he is still seriously well-handicapped on his best form.
This filly was raised 2lb for her good effort last time out and has shaped as though she is ready to score on her last two starts.
Despite being nudged up to a mark of 61, she did win at Catterick last season off a rating of 64 and having run very well at Hamilton in June, she should be able to go well at Beverley, which is very similar track.
I don’t back too many John Wainwright winners, but his horses that have started at single-figure odds have been running well recently plus Ella McCain is a good booking here claiming a useful 5lb.
The selection is a habitual slow starter, so I am not too worried about the wide draw as Dandy’s Angel will definitely be doing her best work near the finish.
