Selections across Wincanton and Market Rasen on Thursday, live on Racing TV, are among three fancies for betting expert Dave Nevison who has been among the winners already this week.
Tanganyika took almost 12 months before he showed winning form over here, which is not untypical of horses that come over from France, and I am hoping that now he is settled in at Venetia Williams' yard, he might improve again this season.
He didn’t stay 2m7f last time out but is dropped back down in trip here to the distance he won over at Carlisle in February, and he is only 4lb higher than that three-length victory now.
With Ned Fox claiming a useful 5lb, he looks well enough handicapped to start the season in style if he's in the same form as most of his stablemates.
Haut Folin is a very similar type to Tanganyika and also hails from the Williams yard, but has even stronger claims on Thursday.
He pulled up in three of his four starts over fences last season after coming over from France, and was beaten more than 20 lengths on his only completed start.
Unsurprisingly, he dropped over a stone in the handicap during the season but off a rating of just 104, it was clearly felt he had acclimatised when he reappeared at Fos Llas recently as he went off the 2-1 favourite.
Haut Folin hacked up and beat a useful and progressive type in Lazy Sunday, and the selection looks very well in here running under a penalty in the same grade.
Charlie Deutsch has presumably been given the choice of heading to Market Rasen, and while his mount will be short odds, when this stable is on a roll, it pays to be with them or sit out. I'm certainly with Haul Folin who looks an exciting young horse at this level.
Looks the interesting one here as he might just be very well handicapped over fences.
He had a long absence, presumably from injury, but reappeared in a handicap hurdle 25 days ago and I think he showed up well until tiring plus was not knocked about from three out.
Morfee was on a roll when last seen in the Spring of 2022 and won a handicap hurdle nicely off a rating of 109 on his final start.
He had reverted to hurdles after falling when still going well enough at Exeter over fences and he has generally jumped well enough to think he can win over the larger obstacles.
If Morfee has come on for his first run, then he could easily go close in this modest affair.
