Our pundit and resident website tipster Dave Nevison likes three runners from and Chelmsford City on Thursday, with further action from live on Racing TV. 2.57 Warwick: LIZZIE REY
She is clearly the obvious choice to win this.
There are not many races where a horse rated 75 over hurdles gets a chance to run off their true mark, but Lizzie Rey got the chance last time and won comfortably by four lengths in a much improved showing.
That form was boosted by the second getting placed next time and, as that race was for conditional riders, Richard Philips’ mare gets to run off the same mark in another basement level 0-95 handicap.
Lizzie Rey was 33/1 to win last time but did it well and the most obvious explanation is the application of cheekpieces, which have to work again. Winning rider
can also claim his 3lb this time, too.
7.00 Chelmsford: ALAFDHAL
Alafdhal is generally consistent at a low level and ran very well to be second last time at Wolverhampton. Off the same mark here, he might well have landed on a race that could well suit him ideally.
Alafdhal is a strong-travelling type who sometimes does too much but, with a very strong pace pretty much guaranteed, he should be able to sit comfortably just behind the pace.
has won twice on Alafdhal previously and from an ideal middle draw can produce him late to score.
8.00 Chelmsford: CHARMING WHISPER
This mile trip looks ideal for the four-year-old now.
Charming Whisper was well backed on his second start last season and improved from his seasonal debut to win despite not getting the best of runs in a Newbury handicap. He continued in decent form for much of last season but found a mark of 80 too high in the second half of the year.
Now down to a mark of 77, he has the assistance of very promising apprentice
and his 5lb claim for this and the rider should be able to sit off a suitably strong pace.
