Our pundit Dave Nevison struck with North Yorkshire Grand National winner Supreme Escape (5/1) on Thursday and marks your card for Friday’s jumps action at Huntingdon. Enjoy further meetings from Dundalk and Meydan live on Racing TV and Racing TV Extra. I feel this is the best chance he has had of winning a race - with several possible positive factors here.
First, Above Suspicion is upped in trip and certainly stays on as though he needs at least this distance. He returns to the track where he ran probably his best race over hurdles and is now 6lbs lower in the weights. Thomas Doggrell is a useful conditional and gets on board for the first time, claiming 8lbs as he is riding for his retainer Tom George.
It's difficult to argue that this £55k purchase has been anything but a disappointment - especially when switched to fences recently - and his jumping certainly has not improved with experience. Hopefully he will appreciate the return to hurdles in the lowest-grade handicap he has ever run in.
NOW A NON-RUNNER
Given his record at Huntingdon over hurdles, it would be a missed opportunity not to run him in a suitable race and this does look a weak event.
Lord Sparky is largely consistent and trainer Caroline Bailey obviously feels whatever ailed him last-time out has been sorted, declaring him just over a week later. Lord Sparky has been raised 2lbs for his narrow margin win over course and distance on his penultimate start where he had little in hand. Bailey has engaged Jack Andrews to claim a valuable 5lbs off the eight-year-old and this looks significant, as I cannot find a record of him riding for the trainer before.
There are a couple coming back from absences here, but largely these look a slow and exposed bunch and this is very winnable.
