Tuesday's card looks fairly typical Catterick quality, but we have decent-sized fields for the handicaps and hopefully we can start the week in winning form.
I have had success a couple of times this year with horses moving to Tristan Davidson and Éclair Des Sablons looks another likely candidate.
He has not been with the yard long and has been in pretty decent form without winning for former trainer Katy Price. Éclair Des Sablons was running in an Ascot handicap off a mark of 120 not that long ago, but has now worked his way back to his last winning mark of 97 and clearly looks a workable project for his new trainer.
He has a relatively experienced jockey in this race for amateurs, the trip looks ideal and hopefully this move up to the North will prove a good one.
Winners from this yard are invariably well-backed, so watch the market.
This point-to-point winner was given what looked a gentle introduction to fences under Rules last time and can reap the benefit of those learnings here.
A glance through her hurdles form suggests a handicap win has been the plan all along for Melanamix, with a couple of runs at least suggesting better is going to come at some point.
A handicap mark of 93 is surely low enough to have a go and this really isn’t a very strong race. Trainer Mike Smith is a shrewd operator and once again a look at the market is advised.
He has five further entries this week and will probably run at least once more if he goes in here - which I fully expect him to do.
Vee Dancer has clearly been plotted up to go on this sort of roll and has been laughing at the opposition - and the handicapper - in the last week or so. True, he is 7lb higher than for his win at Hereford last time, but that really would not have stopped him there and this is another weak race.
Kevin Brogan has been on board for his last two wins and again claims one of the most valuable 3lbs around.
