Betting expert Dave Nevison gives us his best bets for the meeting at Chepstow on Tuesday.
1.00 Chepstow: Good For You
Good For You has been dropped 5lb for two runs in novice handicaps this winter but has run reasonably promising races, especially last time out and is now able to run in this lowest grade.
He hasn’t run in 0-100 grade before and is also being tried over 2½ miles for the first time, which looks very likely to bring out some improvement. His dam won over this trip and several close relatives stayed further.
Jane Williams’ runners have been going well in January and this looks a good opportunity for him to break his maiden in a big but modest field.
2.02 Chepstow: High Tea
A couple of last-time-out fallers might have something to say about the outcome of this competitive handicap and Kim Bailey’s High Tea looks much the most likely winner.
He was going very well and closing on the lead when he fell two out in an amateurs’ event at Ludlow last month and the handicapper obviously believes he would have won, having raised him 5lb.
He had won well over this course and distance on his previous start and this lightly raced seven-year-old still looks a very progressive hurdler and can make amends.
3.47 Chepstow: Fat Faced Columbo
Fat Faced Columbo is being brought along steadily and did me a favour when a well backed winner at Taunton last month.
That was only the gelding’s fourth run under Rules, plus only his second chase, and he won by ten lengths in good style after his main rival fell at the last when challenging. That one has won on his next start so the form looks strong for the grade.
He hung left on that occasion, so it looks like he could be even better going in that direction on Tuesday. He runs on completely different ground but performed well on soft ground in a novice hurdle, so I don’t have concerns on that score.
