"He's a graded horse in a handicap" - Coral Gold Cup trainer quotes

Connections of the leading players in this year's Coral Gold Cup shared the inside track at the Coral Gold Cup Gallops Morning on Tuesday. Make sure you also find time to watch Nick Lightfoot's informative interviews from Newbury below ahead of the £250,000 showpiece on Saturday, December 2.
Nicky Henderson, trainer of Dusart
“Dusart did it well enough this morning and has had a nice away day like Jonbon, who came here the other day, he walked round the paddock and went home.
“He’s been here before and is a good horse. The Coral has always been the plan and he would benefit from some decent ground.
“He had all sorts go wrong last season and was travelling beautifully when being brought down in the Scottish National.”
Paul Nicholls, trainer of Complete Unknown
“I think Complete Unknown is a smart horse and he's had a good prep. He will be our only runner in the Coral Gold Cup and he did a lovely piece of work (at Newbury).
“He’s been trained for the race and the big galloping track will suit him. We love targeting these races, as you saw on Saturday, and this has been the plan since he came back into training in July. He’s had a breathing operation which has helped him, and the softer it is the better, although he can perform on good to soft.
"I'm very happy with him. Strong Flow won the Newton Abbot race (which Complete Unknown won last time out) and Pic D'Orhy and Bravemansgame have won it in previous years, too."
John McConnell, trainer of Mahler Mission
“He put in an exhibition of jumping at Carlisle over a trip that was too short for him. He’s a very good jumper and was getting tired when he fell at Cheltenham.
“Ben (Harvey) will be on him. He knows him and gets on with him. We’re looking forward to going for the Coral with a live chance.
“Ben has grown up with me he started when he was 15. He did so well as a conditional. He has a good clock in his head.
“He’s a big horse with a lovely racing weight (10st 10lb). We were always going to go for one of the big handicap chases. This one is a valuable pot run at a lovely track which offers a fair playing field. Physically he looks as good as he’s ever looked. He’s not pretty, but he’s starting to fill out into his frame now.”
Jonjo O'Neill, trainer of Monbeg Genius
“I’m very happy with Monbeg Genius and we've said since last year this race is where we'll want to go. The plan is to come here and he looks the right type for the race. He’s a good stayer and a strong galloper and everything looks right for him.
"He seems fine (after Ascot) and he collided with another horse at the wrong time in the race. He's in good form and if he puts in the performance he did in the Ultima, then he’s in with every chance."
*Dan Skelton, trainer of Midnight River and Galia Des Liteaux
"Midnight River is first and foremost. The front two kicked clear in the Charlie Hall - we're not up to beating them off level weights - and he ran creditably, I thought. He jumped nicely and did everything that we asked him to do. He was almost allowed to come home in his own time, and he had a grand day out.
"I was thinking of this race for Midnight River after Le Milos won it last year.
"I will probably confirm Galia Des Liteaux just incase it got really, really soft. She won at Market Rasen last week in a Mares' race at a track that, in hindsight, didn't suit her."
Jamie Snowden, trainer of Datsalrightgino and Ga Law
"Ga Law won the Paddy Power Gold Cup last year and looked a really progressive, second-season novice chaser, but his fall in the Sky Bet Chase dented his confidence a little bit, and we've been on a slight retrieval mission since then.
"Hopefully Ahoy Senor runs and keeps the weights down. Ga Law stays well and there's plenty of spice about him at home. We've been very happy with him.
"Datsalrightgino is in great form. I'm really happy with him. He was a very progressive novice chaser last season and improved 20lb. He chased home Stage Star at Cheltenham (in January) and won a Grade Two at the Scottish National meeting. Gavin (Sheehan) is very keen to go up in trip with him and has always been adamant he wants three miles. He comes here unexposed over this trip."
Joe Tizzard, trainer of Eldorado Allen
"Eldorado Allen has been fantastic. He was second in the Charlie Hall annd second in the Betfair Chase last season...and fourth in the King George. The handicapper has given him a big chance now and has dropped him down to a nice handicap mark. He's a graded horse in a handicap, simple as that.
"He loves this track and while I think he'll get the trip, that's maybe on thing that's in the back of my mind as he was second in an Arkle and has been placed in a Ryanair.
"But I think as he's got older, he's able to get further. Even at Ascot he took a blow before staying on again. He comes here in good form."
