Harbour Law still on Gold Cup trail despite disappointing Ascot return

The four-year-old gave trainer Laura Mongan a memorable Classic victory on Town Moor last September and made his first start since in last Wednesday's Sagaro Stakes.

Tom Queally took over in the saddle from George Baker, who suffered a serious head injury in a fall at St Moritz in February, but Harbour Law trailed home last of seven runners.

Mongan said: "Not a lot has come to light and he's actually come out of the race really well.

"I think it was just a very messy race on the day and nothing really suited him in the way it was run.

"He's an out-and-out stayer and maybe he should have been ridden a bit more prominently.

"The main thing is he's absolutely fine and happy in himself.

"We'll see how he is in the next four or five weeks, but we're still planning to aim for the Gold Cup and I think we'll go straight there."

Harbour Law is a general 25-1 for the Gold Cup. Order Of St George is 2-1 favourite to win back-to-back renewals of the feature.
