Glorious Goodwood day two World Pool preview: a tip for every race

That was far from ideal for a horse with lots of stamina, and he has an 8 lb pull in the weights with the winner. The booking of Silvestre de Sousa looks significant, too. Tierra Del Toro remains capable of better, having been too keen at Royal Ascot when a few places ahead of Cannes. Chester third Infraad looks the pick of the rest with this longer distance likely to suit.  

A 1000m (5f) contest in which the market has tended to get things right. Wild Blossom paid the price for being too keen and launching a very early challenge when fading in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, and is capable of better here, but the same owners' HIDDEN GIFT looked sharper than on debut when fifth in the Albany Stakes at the same meeting and the drop back to five furlongs looks in her favour. Fast Track's form looks solid and she looks the pick of the rest with Oisin Murphy taking over in the saddle.

Two three-year-olds dead-heated in this 1400m (7f) Group Three last season, while the three previous renewals were also won by that age group, so it might be worth focusing on them once more. Planet Seeker impressed at HQ but this is a big jump up, whereas it's a drop in grade for ZANTHOS who has had trip/ground excuses when overfaced at the top table this season. Eleven of the last 13 winners had an official rating of 100 or more; Zanthos is rated 109 after a pair of Newmarket wins over seven furlongs last season. Flora Of Bermuda is the class act in the race, having been ahead of Sayidah Dariyan in May, but, like that rival, the older mare has something to prove over this new trip.  

Fast fillies have fared well in this 1000m (5f) sprint – which is on one of the quickest courses in the world – and the speedy PERSHAADA gets the nod. Connections may rue the decision to rein her back at Royal Ascot given how quickly she started, and how well she finished her race, but this C&D winner could be allowed to bowl along in front here. Ruler's Pride is worth another chance after an underwhelming effort in the Coventry Stakes, but the main danger could be the quick, unbeaten colt Adonius who has been given a break since winning three in the spring. He sports new silks here having been bought into with the Breeders' Cup in mind, and is clearly a colt of great potential. 

With last year's shock winner Qirat and Lake Forest both engaged in Tuesday's Lennox Stakes, it seems best to first focus on the third match-up between Bow Echo and Gstaad. The score is 2-0 in the former's favour, but there wasn't much between them at Royal Ascot, for all it's worth noting that the race didn't plan out perfectly for the winner. Of the pair, preference in this 1600m (8f) contest is for the unbeaten Bow Echo who bids to become the first horse since Frankel to win the 2000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes and Sussex Stakes, but they are taking on their elders for the first time and OPERA BALLO is capable of throwing a spanner in the works. He was reeled in late on in the Queen Anne, eventually third behind Ten Bob Tony, but was running into a strong headwind that day and could be able to kick at the right time here in what may prove to be a tactical affair.  

David Evans has a good record at the course so Supreme King commands respect in this 1200m (6f) sprint, but the nod goes to MAE AMOR for whom David Allan looks a good jockey booking. This Mehmas filly relished the uphill finish when springing a shock at Hamilton on her return to action and should appreciate the strong pace which looks likely here. Richard Spencer is a fine trainer of sprinters so the returning Born Slippy is considered, along with recent winners Under The Twilight, Vingegaard and Winchurch. Velvet Rhythm and Rory Rocket are other in-form contenders to consider, while the drop in trip for her handicap debut should see an improved effort from Lunar Melody.  

COLOMBIER appeared to relish challenging between horses when successful off a strong pace at Epsom in June and a similar scenario looks likely in this 1400m (7f) handicap given his wide draw in 20. He's preferred to Ryan Moore's mount Crimson Spirit, who continues to run well but whose mark is edging up as a result, and Superposition who should appreciate the step back up to this distance. Former winner Rhoscolyn is on a dangerous mark, and rates better than his finishing position at Hamilton suggests as he was badly hampered. Zarathos, The Liffey and Silver Ghost round off the shortlist.
