Hear George Boughey speak to SBK about his stable stars
George Boughey’s stellar 2022 shows no sign of slowing down after breakthrough Classic glory and Royal Ascot success. Only four trainers have saddled more than his 63 winners so far this calendar year, and the 30-year-old told SBK about plans for some of his stable stars for the second half of the season.

She's good. Shes had a busy start to the year and basically had four Group One races. She’s a Classic winner and deserves a bit of a break so she’ll have some down time now.
I would imagine she will be busy through early autumn. She peaked last year at the Breeders Cup in November and it’s been the plan before the Guineas to try and end up there, so I think it’s only fair that she has a bit of time away from the yard so she’s off to Fittock Stud with the Cumanis and she will be back in the autumn and raring to go. She was very good out there in America and she likes the soft mile.
Ascot was just a bit searching for her with the hill. At Newmarket you can freewheel for a big part of the race so she could go back there for the Sun Chariot and possibly the Foret on Arc Day before the Breeders Cup. America is the main target.

MISSED THE CUT

He was great at Ascot. He’s always been a good work horse and he's got a fantastic pedigree and a physical to match. I thought he might do what he did at Ascot, so it was nice to see him confirm it. He’s a top-drawer horse over ten furlongs at the moment so he’s been given a mark of 108 and he will go to Newbury for a Listed race on the 16th.
Ryan Moore had been in to ride him and he was still quite green in his work. He had to do a lot of work in races to educate him. He was very green at Pontefract and then again at Salisbury. He’s come an awful long way in a short space of time. He’s part-owned by Lanes End Stud in America now and I’d imagine at some point he will be travelling, but for a three-year-old to achieve what he has in such a short space of time I don’t want to be over facing him too soon. He’s come a long way and is going to be a four-year-old as well.

INVER PARK

He's come out of Royal Ascot well. He has a few entries and it looks at the moment like he is going to possibly go to the Stewards Cup. He’s in the International at Ascot and also Newmarket in the Bunbury Cup. I think he will probably go for Goodwood, it’s the sort of race we had in mind a long while ago when Sam Haggas bought the horse. He laid him out for the Buckingham Palace, and we were dreaming that he may be the sort of horse who could go for a Stewards' Cup so that’s probably where we will be going.
He slightly proved me wrong at Ascot. I was praying for a bit of rain and he showed a bit of a turn of foot on fast ground. He’s by Pivotal out of an Exceed And Excel mare which is slightly contrasting. I always thought he’d want a bit of ease in the ground, but he was pretty impressive on fast ground.

LOVELY MANA

She's been a bit of a revelation recently. She’s a filly who has started to put on weight and I think we’ve ran her five times in the last five or six weeks and she just keeps stepping forward. There’s a handicap at Ascot on that she might head to with Saffie Osborne taking the ride.

OSCULA

She's is another one who has been a bit of a revelation this year. She had a very tough two-year-old campaign and I slightly wondered whether we might have left her career at two. She bounced out of Saudi Arabia very well - I say that, but she had a decent break afterwards and her form has returned to where she was last year. It was a pretty good effort at the weekend behind Mr. Gosden’s horse (Grande Dame) who is obviously a very nice filly.
She’ll probably be kept quite busy this year. She could go to Glorious Goodwood. There are a few races for her there. She was busy last year, she travelled all over Europe. To be able to back up that quickly, she doesn’t do a huge amount at home. She’ll be busy in Europe this year too.

AIR TO AIR

He's been off a while. He had a small setback after the time he ran at Windsor in the Racing League. The guys at home did an amazing job with him. He will go to the International Handicap at Ascot on Saturday and he’s a horse who I’ve always held in high regard. It’s just taken him a while to mature. I think we might see a horse who is on the upgrade now.

DIAMOND RANGER

He was tough to win under a penalty at Wolverhampton the other day. He’s a horse I think will get further. He has an official rating of 91 after three starts. He’s not an overly flashy work horse but he’s certainly turning up on track and I think there’s an Ascot handicap in July that he may well go to.

MALRESCIA

She showed plenty of pace at Newmarket. I was thinking she was a filly that could step up to seven furlongs, but she’s actually going to go to Deauville on Sunday for a Listed race over five furlongs. She’s a very well-bred filly by Acclamation and we’ve already got black type with her so it’s all about making her a stakes winner.

EVOCATIVE SPARK

He looked progressive and then slightly regressed at Goodwood on soft ground. He was a good winner at Chester on decent ground. He likes a bend and he’s possibly going to go to Newmarket this weekend which slightly contradicts what I’ve just said, but the bet365 Handicap is a race we have had in mind for a long time. He should go there with a good chance.

PURENESS

She ran well on debut. She’s a filly I’m sure will get further. She was only beaten a few lengths over six furlongs at Newmarket. She may well go to Carlisle this week for a seven-furlong novice.
